Field Trip Thursday is our Field Trip to the GA Aquarium. I sent out an informational email last week, which listed many of the details. Please let me know if your child has medication in the clinic that you'd like me to take with us. Please only send disposable items for lunch that day (including the bag/cold packs etc.) Lunches will be stored in a cooler. The dress code for that day is jeans and a red shirt (uniform, spirit wear or any other red shirt). Market Day Market Day is May 13th. We will need volunteers to help set up and clean up. End of the Year Party The Party has been moved to my neighborhood playground. It's still on May 18th from 4 to 7 pm. I'll send out more details this week, including a sign up sheet for food. Book Fair The Buy One Get One Free Bookfair starts this Friday. This is a great time for students to stock up on books for the summer! There is a schedule for raising money for All for Books, which is listed on the Peek of the Week. There will also be a NUT Pass on May 9th. Donations Needed I need about five or six whole newspapers. If you get the Sunday paper and would like to donate it, please send it in with your student (I only need the real paper, not the glossy sales/coupon inserts) CRCT Scores We'll know if any student needs to be retested the last week of school. If your child doesn't fall into this category, scores will be distributed in final report cards after school is out. 13 MORE DAYS UNTIL YOU HAVE FOURTH GRADERS!!!!!! CRCT Snack Sign Up Please visit the link below to sign up to donate part of our healthy CRCT snack. I know it seems like a lot, but remember that it's designed to feed 20 children 5 times. Also, for the mints, I need a total of 200 because I will give each child a mint as testing starts in the morning AND after their break. SignUp Genius Field Trip Remember that permission forms and field trip money are due by this Friday, April 18th. Here is a copy of the permission form if you have misplaced it. Permission Form Math & Science Day Math and Science Day will be this Wednesday, April 16th. Students enjoy this day, when they rotate through activity stations to review science and math concepts to prepare for the CRCT. This event is being sponsored by Horace Mann Insurance Company. They could still use volunteers for this activity. Please click here to sign up. Market Day We have been learning about economics all year with our Classroom Economy. On May 13th, students will apply all their economics skills to create their own mini-business for Market Day! Information will be coming home today! Market Day Info Market Day Rules Recess Rewards Third grade decided to implement a new program to reward students who show exemplary behavior during each week. On Fridays, those students will be allowed to have extra free time outside after our regular recess time. The students who do not earn the extra recess are not in trouble and are not being punished. We just felt that the students who consistently show respect, follow directions and demonstrate extra effort in academics and social areas should receive some sort of recognition. End of Year Party I'm so excited that so many families are able to attend the cook out on May 18th. We've had 15 "Yes" 1 "No" and 4 "No Response Yet" Go ahead and start sending in the $3 to rent the pavilion. Since it's not officially through the school, I won't be able to give you a receipt out of my receipt book. But, I'll do like I did when we went went to Tellus--I'll email you a receipt of payment. In the next few weeks, I'll send out a signup genius for the drinks, side dishes and desserts. I already told my students about my husband's baked beans. He puts sausage and peaches in them! They are delicious!!!!!! Spelling List Unless the third grade team changes its mind, last week was our last new spelling list. The review lists are posted on spelling city.com if you'd like your child to continue studying to stay sharp. After the CRCT, we may just do the weekly dictation portion (the silly sentences) to make sure that they are retaining the words from the whole year. Today I emailed a reminder about OAS and MobyMax Online Test Practice. I don't want to post the details here, so if you have any questions, please send me an email. End of the Year Party I also emailed a questionnaire about an off site End of the Year Party. Please respond to that email by the end of the week. Field Trip Permission Forms to go to the GA Aquarium came home today. Please keep the upper portion for your records, and return the bottom portion along with your payment of $32 by April 18th. If sending cash, please send correct change. Scholastic Order Thank you so much for those of you who ordered books this year. My library has really grown with your help and generosity!!!! Since there is a half price Book Fair soon, this will be the last classroom order. CRCT Letter Please review the CRCT letter that came home today from our counselor, Ms. Mallon. Tissues & Extra Snacks Thank you to those of you who donated items to the class. I really appreciate all that you do! Time Packets The GoMath Time Packets are due on Wednesday. We will test over the Module on Friday before the break. MobyMax Many students have made a lot of progress on the MobyMax State Practice Tests. I'm so proud! Peek at the Week Don't forget to check the Peek of the Week. The calendar has been updated through April. Scholastic Order Today, students brought home three catalog pages for a Scholastic Book Club order. The order deadline is April 7th. Click here for link to website. Eleanor and Franklin Roosevelt Quizzes I forgot to add it to the Peek of the Week, but the students should have written it in their agendas today that we're going to have a quiz over Mr. and Mrs. Roosevelt on Wednesday. We'll review mostly in class. Career Day This Friday, March 21st, is Career Day. Mrs. Moore has contacted parent volunteers to make the schedule for presenters. On Friday, we're asking that students dress professionally (like for a job interview). Moby Max Please help your child log on to Moby Max. The usernames have been changed to the first initial last name (mgilbert) and the password is kcsma. I'm asking that the students complete both the Language and Math State Test Prep section. They can also go on FactMaster to practice math facts for five minutes per day. After those two items are complete, they can go to other sections of the website. CRAZY Fundraiser I believe this week is the deadline for the fundraiser where students can cut/shave the heads of some brave specials teachers. Multiplication Facts We're continuing to test on our 0-9s Math Facts. In third grade, we only need to know 0-9s. Some students haven't successfully mastered their 0s through 9s by memory, so they need to continue working. The other students will continue to have a weekly test so they will retain the information through fourth grade! Lost and Found The Lost and Found will be cleaned out this Friday and donated to charity. Please come i Time Math Assignment Thank you so much for your willingness to work with your students at home on the 3rd grade time standards. The five lessons came home in a stapled-together packet last week. Please let me know if you have any questions or feedback about the ThinkCentral or LearnZillion lesson videos I linked in my previous email. You are welcome to work through the material at your own pace, but I’d like to have every student turn it in on Wednesday March 26th. CRCT Review/Homework Changes This week, the Comprehension Packet was copied out of order. I’m sorry for the inconvenience! Beginning next week, students will complete CRCT review packets for homework in place of the Reading Comprehension packets. There will be a time built into the school day to review the packets as a class. Therefore, please make sure that each day’s assignment is completed that evening. Since we are continuing to learn new material in Math, students will still have daily homework to review concepts taught in class. Library Visits I changed my regular media center visits from Mondays to Thursdays. Please try to remind your child to bring their books on Thursdays. For Quest students, they can go to the media center on an alternate day in between lessons (if their work is complete). Box Tops Party Our ice cream party to celebrate our Box Top collection will be this Friday, March 14th at 1:00. I appreciate how many box tops you and your families collected. I know the kids will really enjoy the party, but I know that you are the ones who did the hard part! Buying Extras Last week, I asked the students not to bring money to buy extras at lunch. The week before, I became aware that some students were sharing/loaning/borrowing money from one another, which began causing problems. The students are welcome to buy extras again starting this week. Please talk with your child about the complications that borrowing money can cause and give them your clear expectations regarding how you want them to spend their money. Box Tops Party The PTO is going to provide an ice cream party for us for coming in 2nd place for our Box Tops collections! I'll let you know when I know the date. They are also giving me a $50 gift card to purchase classroom supplies! Multiplication Facts Please continue to have your child memorize his or her multiplication facts. Knowing these facts by memory is essential to success on the CRCT and with ever increasing difficult math at the end of this year and in fourth grade. The students and I have loved watching the mother and father eagle caring for their eaglet and egg. How exciting it is to watch a natural habitat from such a trilling vantage point! We will continue to keep up with the family as they grow and develop. |
