The kids really enjoyed the Fun Run today! I'm looking forward to seeing how much money we collected for the playground additions!!!
Also, thank you for buying books from our scholastic reading club. I submitted the order this afternoon and expect the shipment next week. If you didn't get to submit an order this time, I'll have another opportunity in another month or so.
We are implementing our Classroom Economy jobs in baby steps. Those who have daily jobs (messenger, clerk, attendance, etc.) have been trained and are doing a fabulous job. Today was the first day I handed out any money (wallet/purse money). I paid out bonuses for going the extra mile this week. Next week, we will have our first official payday. This will be when the bankers learn how to do their job; because I won't let the students keep that much money in their purses/wallet. They are learning words like transaction, withdrawal, deposit and balance! Next Friday, I will pay bonuses and train the police officers to collect fines. I don't plan to collect rent until the end of September and won't have our first auction until they earn some disposable income. Pretty soon, our economy will be running like a well-oiled machine!
The students may mention other jobs in our classroom. We have Classroom Economy jobs and family jobs. I explained that I get paid for teaching but I don't get paid for cooking my family dinner or washing my dog. The students are on a fair rotation for jobs like line leader, lunch table cleaners, floor cleaners, carpool watchers, etc, which they do because they care about me, each other and our classroom. They certainly have a lot of responsibility in third grade!
I hope everyone has a wonderful and safe holiday weekend. I'll be in Clemson, SC for around 18 hours tomorrow followed by lots of extra sleeping on Sunday.
